Double Chin Removal Without Surgery

Are you looking to finally get rid of your double chin without undergoing surgery? Then you've come to the right place with Dr. Eva Maria Strobl. She offers an innovative solution with the fat-dissolving injection to reduce excess fat tissue under your chin. In this article, you'll discover whether the fat-dissolving injection could be the right solution for you.

At a Glance: Fat-Dissolving Injection for Double Chin

The fat-dissolving injection is injected into the area under the chin. It dissolves the fat cells, and the body fat is naturally eliminated.

Typically, 2–4 treatments are required, depending on the amount of fat to be removed. These sessions are performed at intervals of approximately 6–8 weeks.

Local anesthesia may be applied to increase comfort, but it is not always necessary. The treatment may cause mild pain or discomfort.

Common side effects include redness, swelling, burning sensation, bruising, and itching. These usually subside within a few days. In rare cases, infections and allergic reactions may occur.

The cost depends on the amount of medication required. In my practice in Munich, prices range from €220-€400 (indicative, billing according to GOÄ) per session.

How to get rid of your double chin

A double chin occurs when there is excess fat tissue beneath the chin, causing the chin to lose its natural contour and the face to appear less dynamic.

Often seen as an aesthetic concern, a double chin can be significantly impacting self-confidence. It can make a person look older and less dynamic. In addition to the psychological distress, it can also lead to health problems, as excessive double chin may cause skin irritation.

In the past, surgical procedures were the only effective solution for a double chin, despite various guides and home remedies claiming to “remove a double chin without surgery.” Attempts to eliminate a double chin through exercise also proved to be largely ineffective in practice.

Removing a double chin without surgery: No longer an empty promise

However, fortunately, there are now effective methods to address this issue without surgery. Several non-surgical procedures, including the “fat-dissolving injection,” cryolipolysis, and radiofrequency therapy, have emerged. None of these methods require surgical intervention. Removing a double chin without surgery or liposuction is no longer an empty promise; it is achievable.

In this blog article, I will focus on my preferred technique, the fat-dissolving injection. I perform this procedure in my practice in Munich, where I have witnessed its effectiveness in numerous successful treatments. For many patients who wish to remove their double chin without undergoing surgery, it offers an equally effective and low-risk alternative.

What is the fat-dissolving injection, and how does it work?

The fat-dissolving injection, also known by its medical name, injection lipolysis, is a non-surgical method for removing excess fat tissue. It is suitable for targeting clearly defined, smaller fat deposits. The treatment involves injecting a substance into the fatty tissue, which destroys the fat cells and transports them to the liver, where they are metabolized.

The treatment is relatively quick, simple, and minimally painful. However, one significant drawback is that multiple sessions are required to achieve satisfactory results. Unfortunately, this requirement discourages many patients from pursuing the treatment. Nevertheless, for those who adhere to the necessary repetitions, each session gradually reduces the appearance of the double chin.

How the Fat-Dissolving Injection Works

I have been using the fat-dissolving injection for many years to treat my patients in various applications. Whether it’s in the face, neck, or body, achieving a chin lift without surgery by eliminating a double chin is often a top aesthetic goal.

Mandatory: Comprehensive Patient Consultation

If you choose to undergo treatment with the fat-dissolving injection for your double chin with me, the first step is a thorough consultation. During this discussion, we will address your needs and desires, and explore the different treatment options available. We will also review your medical history and assess whether any current medications you may be taking could pose a problem in relation to the fat-dissolving injection.

Get rid of a double chin in 3 steps:

Anaesthesia

First, the area is superficially anesthetized with an anesthetic cream. To enhance the effect of the cream, the skin is covered with foil.

Injection

Once the anesthetic takes effect, the active ingredient is injected into the fatty tissue over several points. Even distribution is important to avoid unsightly dents.

Effect

The effect starts immediately, which is expressed by redness and swelling. These side effects are usually harmless and pass after a few days.

Once you have decided to undergo the fat-dissolving injection, I will mark the area where the injections will be administered to achieve the desired outcome. The fat-dissolving injection contains a specialized solution of phosphatidylcholine (better known as lecithin) and deoxycholic acid. It should be injected evenly into the fatty tissue to completely dissolve the excess fat and prevent any unsightly dimpling. The dissolved fat is then transported to the liver and metabolized, similar to the body’s natural fat burning process.

What happens after the injections?

The injections may cause a mild burning or stinging sensation, but most patients report minimal pain. I use lidocaine cream to numb the treatment area, significantly reducing pain sensitivity. A session typically lasts about 15–30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Multiple sessions are usually required to achieve satisfactory results, with sessions scheduled every six to eight weeks.

After the treatment, you may experience significant swelling, redness, and mild pain at the injection site. Temporary itching is also a common expected side effect. These symptoms are typically mild and subside within a few days. You can use ice packs to help alleviate pain and swelling.

It is important to note that the results of the fat-dissolving injection treatment are not immediately visible. It may take several weeks or even months before you notice a noticeable chin lift. However, if you are patient and adhere to the recommended number of sessions, you can achieve long-lasting results with the fat-dissolving injection.

When does the fat-dissolving injection not work?

Chin lift without surgery offers many advantages over invasive procedures such as surgery or liposuction. It does not require anesthesia, reducing the risk of complications. There is no downtime, allowing you to resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. The method is also very precise, as the excess fat can be targeted exactly where it is bothersome.

However, the fat-dissolving injection does not work for everyone. If you have significant skin laxity under the chin, a surgical lift is likely to be the only effective solution. “Removing a double chin without surgery” is only partially true in this regard. Even the most effective fat reduction is of little use if excess skin is left hanging from the chin.

Similarly, if you have a considerable accumulation of fat, liposuction, or surgery may be the better option. If you desire quick results with just one treatment, the fat-dissolving injection is not a suitable procedure. The alternative minimally invasive methods (see below) are also not suitable.

What is the cost of double chin removal with the fat-dissolving injection?

The cost of treating a double chin with the fat-dissolving injection in my practice in Munich starts at approximately €220 per session (estimated value). Please note that the specific price depends on the size of the excess fat deposit and the required amount of the active ingredient. The individual treatment will be invoiced based on the regulations of the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ).

Other Ways to Get Rid of a Double Chin without Surgery

Cryolipolysis

In addition to the fat-dissolving injection, there are other methods available for non-surgical chin tightening. One of them is cryolipolysis, where the fatty tissue under the chin is cooled using a specialized device, causing the fat cells to die off and be eliminated by the body. This procedure does not require anesthesia or sedation, but you may need multiple treatments to effectively get rid of your double chin.

Radiofrequency therapy

Another alternative is radiofrequency therapy. In this procedure, the fatty tissue is heated with radio waves to destroy the fat cells. This method also requires no downtime and is non-invasive. However, it also requires multiple treatments to achieve satisfactory results.

It’s important to note that each treatment option has its advantages and disadvantages. What they have in common is that they provide a relatively gentle way to remove a double chin without surgery. However, as I mentioned earlier, in certain cases, considering surgical skin tightening or liposuction may be advisable. Therefore, it is always recommended to consult a qualified expert to determine the best option for you.

Conclusion

In summary, the fat-dissolving injection offers an effective and gentle method for patients who wish to remove their double chin without undergoing surgery. It allows for the reduction of excess fat tissue under the chin and the achievement of a defined and more dynamic appearance.

Compared to invasive procedures, the fat-dissolving injection is significantly lower in risk. It also does not require any downtime or lengthy recovery periods. However, it is not superior to surgery in all cases. Surgical intervention is warranted when a quick solution is desired, the excessive fat deposit is large, or when excess skin needs to be removed to achieve tightening.

As a specialized physician in aesthetic medicine, I am experienced in non-surgical chin tightening. With my years of experience and a wide range of treatments, I can tailor a treatment plan to meet your individual needs and desires.

The fat-dissolving injection is performed in a pleasant and relaxed environment in my practice. The treatment itself is relatively painless and typically lasts only about 30 minutes. Since the fat cells gradually break down after the injection, multiple sessions are required to achieve satisfactory results. For those who have the necessary patience, the goal of removing a double chin without surgery can become a reality.
